First Reading

When a Child Reads With You

This part of my research is looking into what happens when a child who you are reading to does when he/she is looking at the page.
Children's minds are a fragile thing when they are younger and this is a great example of what is happening in your child's head when you are reading to them.

The page below shows a book which is designed for both readers to participate in the reading of a book. One section is for the adult to read, so they are getting the information into the child which auditory. But there is also a section for small children to read which is a much larger font and getting them to do an activity, which in this case is moving around.

I think this is a great way to get the first time readers leaning and getting valuable time with their parent/parents.

Helping a Child to Read

Helping a Child to Read

This is something similar to put into a book for a parent to read to a child. But this is almost the opposite of what you were doing.
My first option was for you to understand how you read to the child. But this one would be all about how to teach your child how to read a children's book.

Having these extras in any book is a plus but having them in a child’s book seems to be much more helpful as an adult you are wanting you children to grow up smart and healthy. This is giving you the opportunity to bond with you child as well as teaching them something before or during their schooling.

This website helps the parent to achieve this when giving a book to a child.

I have researched this as I wanted to give some sort of power to the adult as well as just have the child do all the work. As children will always need help until they are older.

Teach a Child to Read

Teach a Child to Read

I have been looking into what to put into a children's book apart from just the story and the imagery. I have found this page where it actually teaches parents how to read to their kids. It’s apparently understood that kids don’t necessarily learn by reading the page but by hearing it from their parents. I was thinking I might be able to place this into the start of my book so when an adult reads it to a child then he/she will be able to really communicate to their child on a different level as well as assuring that what they are doing is allowing the child to learn.

This is a great way to add something extra to any book which will help the adult with teaching their kids how to read and possible have a bonding session with the child.

My Favorite Illustrator

Mr Gum

These are one of my favourite book series that I have found that I like each and every one of their books. Mr Gum has been written by an author called Andy Stanton with an illustrator David Tazzyman.

These two have created a book series with the character Mr Gum, with a variety particular drawing style. These are some of my favourite books because of the drawings which are in each of the books; below you will see some of their books and what amazing imagery they have used.

The age range of 7-11 is what they have aimed at as their books are a little too dramatic for a younger child. Having a wicked looking character and a drawing style which is done to look like pencil is something I would be very interested in. But there is a problem and that is which the brief of a foraging book, I will be needed detailed drawings or photography to create real images of what children may or may not pick up. So this style is something I might not be able to use when designing my books.

But I still fell that these books are a great way to communicate to children of that age.

Top 100 Children's Books

Top 100 Children's Books Of All Time

I think is important to look at existing children's book which has done really well through out there published life. This is because that you could have the best story that a child could read, but if you don’t put it across in a nature which works well with the story then you will not have a successful book.

This is a list of the top 100 children's books of all time, with explanations included. When I was looking at the variety of books in this list, I found that I actually knew most of the books in the top 20. The books which I did recognise are the ones which my parents read to me when I was younger.
In the survey I have created (Coming Soon); this is something which is becoming apparent to me.
Parents reading to their children are one of the best ways to communicate to a child. This is because that smaller children usual listen a little more to their parents compared to just reading on their own unless there is an activity involved.

I will be researching into why this is so critical into a child's development why they are younger.
But this website will give me a understanding on why these books are so well done s this site even gives you an explanation on why they are so good at what they communicate.
This is a very helpful website and it has really helped me with my research into other children's books.
